Creating a Campus Culture for Student Persistence:
Academic Advising as Teaching and Learning
2012 Seminar
Information about the 2012 Seminar
The 2012
Seminar
Regardless of the size or type of academic institutions around the world or the composition of the student body, academic advising plays a critically important role in student persistence to graduation. Through contact with faculty and professional advisors, students learn to make sense of their education within the context of their academic goals and career aspirations.
Academic advising derives from the teaching and learning mission of higher education, and has its own curriculum, pedagogy, student learning outcomes, and assessment strategies. This seminar will focus on Advising as a Teaching and Learning process both in theory and in practice and will offer participants the opportunity to engage with colleagues from around the country to learn new strategies for advising and student success.
