ACADEMIC ADVISING ADMINISTRATORS' INSTITUTE

There is still time to register for the Administrators' Institute to be held January 30 – February 1, 2005, in St. Pete Beach, FL. We are looking forward to another great Institute in the sun!

The new fabric of multiculturalism on our campuses may pose some very real challenges for advisors, but cross-cultural advising need not be fraught with pitfalls. NEW MONOGRAPH AVAILABLE NOW!

Advising Transfer Students: Issues and Strategies, NACADA Monograph #12, is now available! This monograph identifies many of the issues related to transfer students and provides a wide range of potential services, programs, and other resources that serve to strengthen the overall higher education experience for transfers.To purchase a copy of Monograph #12, please complete an order form and fax it to the Executive Office. Copies purchased by members who attended the National Conference in Cincinnati will be sent by January 12.

2005 LEADERSHIP ELECTION INFORMATION AND VOTING PROCEDURES

Information on the 2005 NACADA Leadership elections is available at www.nacada.ksu.edu/Election/index.htm. It includes a complete slate of candidates, online voting procedures, and links to platform statements by the candidates.

All voting will be done online. Printed ballots will not be mailed for this election. The online voting system will be activated by 9:00 a.m. Central Time on Friday, January 14, 2005. The deadline to vote is by 9:00 a.m. Central Time on Friday, February 11. If you do not receive an e-mail with your personal login and password on January 14 for this election, please contact Julia Wolf (jqwolf@ksu.edu) at the Executive Office or call (785) 532-5717.

NOTE: Only individuals whose NACADA membership is current and PAID IN FULL as of Friday, January 14, 2005, will be eligible to vote in the 2005 leadership elections.

CHANGE IN CO-CHAIRS FOR NATIVE AMERICAN AND TRIBAL COLLEGE INTEREST GROUP

Please welcome Adrienne Thunder, University of Wisconsin-Madison, as the new lead co-chair for the Native American and Tribal College Interest Group. Mark Bellcourt, who initiated the establishment of this IG and had served with Adrienne as the lead co-chair over the past couple of years, recently resigned as co-chair. Iona Black will assist Adrienne as co-chair for this interest group. 2005 AWARDS CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

The 2005 Awards Call for Nominations, including nomination/application criteria, deadlines, and forms, is available at www.nacada.ksu.edu/Awards/AwardsCall.htm. Printed booklets with nomination information and forms are no longer mailed to members. The deadline for receipt of nomination materials for most award categories is March 7, 2005.

Please closely review the applicable information in the 2005 Awards Call before submitting your final nomination materials. There have been changes in the criteria for certain awards. Refer to the 2005 Call for Nominations at the Awards web site above for detailed information on all award categories, applicable eligibility criteria/changes, and submission procedures.

ADDITIONS TO COMMISSION AND INTEREST GROUP list serveS COMPLETED

At the National Conference in Cincinnati, many of you signed up for the commission and interest group list serves. The task of updating these list serves accordingly has been completed. For instructions on posting messages to the list serves, please visit www.nacada.ksu.edu/list serve/index.htm and click on the link for the applicable list serve(s). Instructions for subscribing/ unsubscribing to these list serves are also available. Thank you for your interest in and participation on these list serves! Remember, these list serves may not be used to promote commercial products or services.

NACADA MEMBER EXPERTISE DATABASE

NACADA members are encouraged to register their areas of advising expertise with the association. The Expertise Database will be referenced when the association seeks spokespersons for media requests; speakers/faculty for Institutes, Seminars, and Conferences; and authors or editors for publications. Members can strengthen their expertise through presentations at NACADA events, and writings for NACADA publications and the Clearinghouse. Registrants can update their entry as needed. To submit an entry to the Expertise Database, complete the form at http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/expertise.htm.

NACADA seeks and encourages representation from diverse groups. This is your opportunity to highlight your expertise and bring it to the attention of those who select speakers and authors. Please be sure to encourage other NACADA members to register as well.

YOUR NACADA MEMBERSHIP MAY EXPIRE SOON!

About 3,000 NACADA members have a membership expiration date of March 1, 2005. Paper renewal packets for these members will be mailed in January. Please complete and return the renewal form with payment to the Executive Office to ensure continued membership benefits.
