Would you like to recognize
a colleague who has done a great job with academic advising on
your campus? Does your campus have an outstanding advising
program currently being implemented? Are you planning to
submit an award nomination, but just haven't done so yet? The
deadline for NACADA to receive of all required nomination materials and support documentation
for most award categories is Monday,
March 8, 2004. That's
only a little more than a week away! NACADA
must receive the nomination materials by this date.
The NACADA Awards Program
would be a great avenue for increasing the visibility of advising
on your campus. The 2004 Call for Awards Nominations, including
nomination/application criteria, deadlines and forms, is available
online at http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/Awards/AwardsCall.htm.
If you have any questions, contact NACADA at nacada@ksu.edu

Is
your advising program contemplating some changes? March
is a month when many campus administrators take time to assess
the success of their advising related services. Featured
this month in the Clearinghouse are links that can
assist in assessing, revising, and expanding your services.

Does
your advisor training program need a lift? In Advisor Training and Development, Heidi
Koring, Lynchburg College, discusses ways to overcome the
three most common problems with advisor training: time, money,
and lack of training for the trainers. Find her suggestions
for overcoming these hurdles at http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/Clearinghouse/AdvisingIssues/adv_training.htm#over.
Need examples of Advisor Training programs that work? Check
out the NACADA monograph Advisor Training:
Exemplary Practices in the Development of Advisor Skills http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/Monographs/index.htm#train.
- Do your student workshops
fail to draw a crowd? Want a captive audience?
Read Peggy Jordan's College Café http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/Clearinghouse/AdvisingIssues/College_Cafe.htm to
see how the advising staff at Oklahoma City Community College "serve up" workshops
that receive rave reviews.
- Need to know how your
advisor salaries stack up to those in your region?
Find median salary comparisons http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/Clearinghouse/Research_Related/Survey/2003_salaries.htm
based on data collected by NACADA and Karen Sofranko, Temple
University, in the 2003 Full-time, Professional Academic Advisor
Survey http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/Clearinghouse/Research_Related/Survey/index.htm.
- Does advising on your
campus need a total restructure? Marsha
Miller, NACADA Research Coordinator, Kansas State University,
offers Factors to Consider when Restructuring
Academic Advising http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/Clearinghouse/AdvisingIssues/factors.htm.
- Need assessment resources?
Find a variety
of assessment resources at http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/Clearinghouse/Links/assessment.htm. While
