2012 Leadership Election Information available — including list of positions to be elected, eligibility criteria, position overviews, and online nomination form. Nominations are due Friday, October 28, 2011, after which nominees will either accept or decline their nominations. The Nominating Committee will then finalize the slate of candidates. Voting will occur February 2012. Stay tuned for more information next month!

Academic Advising Administrators’ InstituteFeb. 9-11
Learn strategies to enhance your own leadership and to lead an academic advising program on your campus! The Institute will utilize learning community groups facilitated by institute faculty who are experienced advising administrators and leaders in the field to assist in the development of an institute specific Action Plan.

Creating a Campus Culture for Student Persistence: Academic Advising as Teaching & Learning Seminar – Feb. 13-14
This seminar will focus on Advising as a Teaching and Learning process both in theory and in practice and will offer participants the opportunity to engage with colleagues from around the country to learn new strategies for advising and student success.

Assessment of Academic Advising Institute – Feb. 15-17
Explore assessment strategies, learn the process, establish goals, develop outcomes, and much more! This working institute will be an intensive two and a half days focused on the components of a successful assessment program as well as specific strategies and tools for developing and implementing assessment programs on your campus.

Thanks to over 2800 NACADA members for joining us in Denver, Colorado for the 2011 Annual Conference! Congratulations to the wonderful Conference Committee that made the conference such a huge success: Dawn Fettig (Chair), Peter Freitag, Kristina Spaeth, Laurel Amsel, Kyle Neidt, Jeff Schweinfest, Wendy McCann, Tom Mabry, Kerri Moncrieff, and Nancy West. The Executive Office would also like to thank our volunteers, presenters, and those who donated to the Silent Auction. We cannot say thank you enough for the many hours donated to making this conference one of the best.

Session handouts are available to those who attended the conference, see page two of your
on-site program.

Recordings of both Dr. Applegate and Dr. Shockley-Zalabak's keynote speeches are available on the Annual Conference web page for your viewing. Also, Marty Lowman's recording of "All in a Days Work" is posted.

2012 Annual Conference Call for Proposals

Plan now to submit a proposal application for the October 4-7, 2012 conference in Nashville, Tennessee. The Conference Theme is Empowering Students to Write Their Own Songs of Success. Online submissions will be accepted beginning December 9th.

Summer Institute 2012 - Call for Faculty

Do you feel that you are an experienced advisor or advising administrator who can serve as faculty for the 2012 Summer Institutes? You will be required to lead concurrent sessions, roundtable discussions, topical sessions, workshops and individual consultations; you may be called on to present a foundation (general) session as well. Over the course of the Summer Institute, you will engage participants in considering theories of advising, student development, advisor development, special populations, assessment and more. In addition, you will serve as a facilitator for a specific group of participants in daily group discussions as they formulate and report their individualized action plans each day.

Summer Institutes are June 24-29, 2012 in Austin, TX and July 29-August 3, 2012 in Louisville, KY. If you are selected you will only serve as faculty at one of the above institutes. To be considered as faculty you must first complete the NACADA Member Expertise Database Registration form by December 1, 2011. It is from this information that the Summer Institute Management Team will locate potential candidates for the 2012 Summer Institute Faculty positions.

NATIONAL RESOURCE CENTER AND ACPA AOFYE ANNOUNCE GRANT COMPETITION

The ACPA - College Student Educators International Commission for Admissions, Orientation and the First Year Experience (AOFYE) and the National Resource Center for The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition (National Resource Center) invite applicants for their 2012 Research Grant Competition. AOFYE and the National Resource Center will jointly award one grant in the amount of $500 to promote original, descriptive, or evaluative research; philosophical studies; or institutional assessment or evaluation on issues surrounding admissions, orientation, and/or the first-year experience. All ACPA members are eligible and graduate students in particular are encouraged to apply for this research grant. Because of the funding support by the National Resource Center, faculty, staff, and students from the University of South Carolina and any of its system campuses may not apply. Research at all stages will be considered, although priority will be given to projects that are further along in the research process (i.e., recently or soon to be completed).

The application deadline is November 14, 2011. Award recipient(s) will be notified on or about December 19, 2011 and will be invited to receive their award at the Commission Business Meeting held during the 2012 ACPA Convention in Louisville, KY, March 26-30.
