NACADA AWARDS PROGRAM
Information on the 2003 NACADA
Awards Program is available on our web site at http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/,
including nomination forms and eligibility criteria. The deadline
for submitting nominations for most award categories is March
3, 2003. Final research grant applications and retiree recognition
notifications are due June 9, 2003. A printed copy of the 2003
NACADA Awards Call for Nominations was mailed to members just
before Thanksgiving. All the information in this printed brochure
can be found on our web site.
Mailing is complete for the latest
issue of the NACADA Journal. Because this double issue
is dated "Spring 2001 - Fall 2001", it was mailed
to all who were NACADA members in 2001 and 2002.
We ask that you let us know of
any NACADA Journal issues received but unclaimed because
the member is no longer at your college or university. E-mail
member name, institution and forwarding address, if known, to
nacada@ksu.edu. Please do
NOT return unclaimed issues to NACADA. Instead, open the NACADA
Journal, check for the free shirt coupon, and then pass
the unclaimed issue to an interested colleague.
Note: a free shirt coupon was
placed, at random, into one NACADA Journal. The shirt
has yet to be claimed. The last day to redeem the free shirt
coupon is January 31, 2003.

SURVEY
REMINDER: MAKE YOUR OPINION COUNT!
NACADA is studying the
option of developing an Advisor Certification program.
The Advisor Certification Task Force would like to receive
comments from NACADA members regarding this preliminary
draft of core advising knowledge and skills that may then
be considered as the knowledge base for certification.
You may follow
the link below to a chart of these suggested skills until
January 10, 2003. After viewing these skills be sure to
reply to the response survey at the end of the chart.
If you cannot
click on the Web address above, please copy the underlined
text and paste it into the address field of your Web browser.
If you experience any difficulties, please contact Technical
Support at (800)865-6143 or (785) 532-0198, or email: help@online.ksu.edu).
COMMISSION
AND INTEREST GROUP PARTICIPATION
As a benefit of
NACADA membership, members are encouraged to join the various
commissions and interest groups to become more involved in the
association. Members may designate up to two commissions for
"official" affiliation. Primarily, such affiliation
would signify those commissions in which you have the most interest
and for which you would have voting privileges, be eligible
for volunteer positions, and receive periodic newsletters and
updates. Two interest groups may also be designated by each
member. Information on the commissions and interest groups available
can be found on our web site at: http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/
Although members may select
only two commissions or interest groups for official affiliation,
other commission and interest group list serves and web pages
may be freely accessed.
COMMISSION
AND INTEREST GROUP list serveS
Many of the NACADA commissions
and interest groups have their own list serves to which members
may join for "FREE". As a way of increasing the
communication and networking among colleagues, we invite you
to subscribe to these list serves. Please note that as a commission
or interest group member, you are not automatically subscribed
to these list serves -- you must do so individually. For a
complete list of the various list serves managed by NACADA,
please click on the following link. Instructions for subscribing
or unsubscribing to a particular list serve can be found by
clicking on that group's link.
http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/
We hope that you will join
some of these list serves and participate in conversations
about issues related to that particular area of interest.

TIPS
FOR SURVIVING THESE TOUGH ECONOMIC TIMES
With the current budget cuts
in many states and institutions of higher education, we
think it helpful to share how Advising Administrators have
or are dealing with reductions in funding. As such, the
NACADA Advising Administration Commission requested that
members share any "tips" that may be replicated
by others - from the very basic to the very creative!
Find a compilation
of the submitted tips at http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/along
with contact information for each administrator. We thank
each contributor. Know that your willingness to share is appreciated
by all facing these grim economic times.
NACADA members may still
suggest tips at nacada@ksu.edu.
