The
Health Professions Advising Interest
Group annual meeting on
Thursday, October 6, 2:00-3:00 pm in the Loire Room (Paris Hotel)
at the National Conference in Las Vegas, will focus on Strategies
for Advising in the Health Professions. To maximize use of our one-hour
session, we would like to ask you to prepare ahead to participate.
First,
we will divide into groups according to the number of students serviced
by your office OR the approximate number of students applying to
health professions programs each year. The volunteer advisors who
assisted me in planning this session will coordinate the groups.
Second,
as a starting point, we will take a look at some basic models such
as one-on-one advising, group advising, online workshops, peer advising
or some other that you commonly use. To help with this process,
below are links to two documents for your use:
- A
format to help you collect your thoughts or make
note of the various media you use
- A
short survey that you are asked to complete so that
we might assess how similar or dissimilar we are in our approaches
to advising students planning to enter the health professions
At
the end of our meeting time, we will try to summarize new ways and
ideas to take back to our programs or which have enhanced the ideas
brought to the meeting. Please print out and bring with you copies
of the documents posted above so they can be used in our meeting
summary report to NACADA.
You
will enjoy this exchange of information.
Sincerely,
Ruby
