Health Professions Advising Interest Group News and Updates

To: Health Professions Advising Interest Group Members
From: Ruby Mason, Chair
Greetings to all of you interested in the health professions. My
name is Ruby Mason and I am chair for the upcoming Health Professions
Advising Interest Group session at the Cincinnati NACADA meeting.
I would like to solicit your input and participation for this session.
Bear in mind that the health professions include a number of specialties
other than medicine.
First, would each
of you send me the three top issues you are concerned with in advising
students who wish to enter these fields? I propose to formulate
our session around the most pressing issues.
Second, I would like
to have several of you assist in putting the session together and
carrying it out. These kinds of meetings are much more stimulating
and informative when they are interactive and participatory.
Third, we are scheduled
to have an information table at the Commission and Interest Group
Fair held during the conference with handouts, brochures, posters,
etc. that you prepare for your students and which you believe have
worked for you and therefore may work for others. If any of you
have materials you wish to share with others, please let me know
what they are. Would you be willing to send me a copy? I have just
returned from the National Association of Advisors for the Health
Professions meeting and am sorting what materials I can share with
you.
It is important that we get our plans made now rather than later
when the new academic year begins. If you could respond to me directly
before July 30, at earsm@stanford.edu,
I will be most appreciative.
Thanks,
Ruby S. Mason, MPA
