The
challenge of providers of academic advising via Distance Education
is to be able to offer a minimum set of core services related
to academic advising which assist distance learners in identifying
and achieving their maximum educational potential which enables
them to reach their educational goals. The institutional philosophy
of a distance learning support services program must be to strive
to respond to learner needs rather than the learner adjusting
to an institution's established organizational structure.
This
interest group meeting will provide a forum for discussion of
core services that are provided to distance learners and provide
an opportunity to network with other professionals who have the
responsibility for providing these services. A list serve will
be established to promote a continued support network.
