Pre-law Advisors!

We hope your fall semesters are going well. In anticipation of the upcoming national NACADA conference, here are a few updates from the Pre-Law Advising Interest Group.

First, October will see a change in leadership for the NACADA Pre-Law Advising Interest Group. Sandra Voller and Julie Givans will be stepping down as co-chairs, and Dr. Peter Baxter of Niagara University in New York will be taking over the reins. Peter has been a pre-law advisor for 12 years and is looking forward to working with his fellow pre-law advisors from around the country to address common problems. His former leadership roles with the New York Political Science Association have provided him with valuable experience that will make him an asset both to the Pre-law Advising Interest Group and NACADA as a whole. Please join us in welcoming Peter to his new role.

Also, for those of you who will be attending the National Conference in Las Vegas, we have many treats in store for you. First, we will have a variety of information and handouts available to you at the Commission and Interest Group Fair at 7:30 am on Thursday, October 6. This event is in the Bally’s Event Center, along with that morning’s conference breakfast, so come say “hi” and pick up some information on your way to your eggs and coffee!

Next up is the Pre-Law Advising Interest Group Meeting at 11:15am on Thursday, October 6, in the Loire Room (Paris Hotel). Come meet Peter, learn about common pre-law advising problems and solutions, and help make plans for the future of the Pre-law Advising Interest Group.

On Friday, October 7, 3:15-4:15pm in Bronze 3, be sure to check out “Hedging Your Bets: Planning Alternative Careers to Law” presented by pre-law advisors from the University of Arizona. Then, come see “Pre-Law Basics for All Advisors” at 10:00am on Saturday, October 8 in Skyview 1. Your colleagues from the University of Utah, Weber State, and Arizona State University are teaming up for this informative presentation.

And finally, remember the Western Association of Pre-Law Advisors Conference that will begin at 1:00pm on Saturday, October 8, at the Riveria Hotel in Las Vegas -- right after the NACADA conference ends. If you are interested in attending this conference and want more information, contact Frank Guliuzza at FGULIUZZA@weber.edu.

Take care, everyone, we look forward to seeing you in Las Vegas!
