Invitation to Annual WAPLA Conference from WAPLA President
Dear
Pre-Law Advisor,
The
WAPLA Executive Board and I are happy to invite you to come to
the annual WAPLA Fall Conference. It
will be held at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada on October
8-9, 2005. The conference will immediately follow the National
Academic Advising Association (NACADA) National Conference, also
to be held in Las Vegas. Therefore, if you are attending the NACADA
meeting, we most especially invite you to join us for a couple
of extra days in Las Vegas for a very focused emphasis on pre-law
advising.
Conference
Registration
The
registration form for
the conference can be found below. The registration fee is $50.00,
which will help defray the cost of the conference. It is our intention
to provide lunch and dinner on Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday,
to those who register for the conference. Too, we intend to host
the annual "wine and cheese" event during the Saturday afternoon
business meeting. Please send or FAX your registration form to
my office. We will e-mail a registration confirmation to you when
we receive the form.
Cancellation
Policy
Because
of the expense involved with putting on this conference, it is
necessary for us to implement a cancellation policy. If you register
for the conference, and then learn that you are unable to attend,
please cancel your registration immediately. If the cancellation
occurs after September 15, 2005 , it will be necessary to charge
you a $25.00 cancellation fee.

can be found below. There is STILL an opportunity to submit proposals
for papers and panels. Please submit your proposal to me at the
address(es) below.
Travel
Arrangements
The
Riviera Hotel is located at 2901 Las Vegas Blvd. South in Las
Vegas. The Hotel is just a short drive from the airport and all
other hotels on "The Strip."

Arrangements
We
have arranged for 35 rooms on Friday night and 35 rooms for Saturday
night at the Riviera . You can take a look at the hotel at www.rivierahotel.com.
The room rates are only $89.00 for single/double occupancy. You
need to indicate that your are attending the WAPLA conference
and register with the Hotel by September 8, 2005 to secure the
special rate.
WAPLA
Stipend
As
in the past, we are pleased to offer a stipend to those WAPLA members
who reside within the WAPLA region. This year's stipend will be
$300.00 for the first 35 WAPLA-region members who serve at undergraduate
institutions who request it. If fewer than 35 WAPLA members who
work at colleges and universities within the region request a stipend
by September 20th, then the remaining stipends may be awarded to
WAPLA members who reside outside of our geographical region who
request a stipend. If you are told that you will receive a stipend,
then after the conference, you need to 1) submit documents to Jim
Riley, WAPLA Treasurer, to show that you have $300.00 or more in
expenses to attend the conference, and 2) include a self-addressed,
stamped envelope with your mailed request. His address is listed
below. If you live in the greater Las Vegas area, or are driving
to the conference, the WAPLA reimbursement rate is $.31/mile - up
to the cost of an airline ticket from your original destination.
