Mission Statement

The Advising Public & Urban Affairs Majors Potential Interest Group is committed to providing quality resource information to academic advisors of students majoring in areas that affect public policy and professional practices in urban and/or metropolitan environments. This group will strive to increase the dissemination of information among professional colleagues across the country by focusing on our disciplines, our students, our partnerships, and our unique services.

Purpose

The Advising Public & Urban Affairs Majors Potential Interest Group would like to study the nuances of improving public policy and professional practices in our communities from an academic advisor's perspective. This group would be of interest to advisors of students in disciplines which are liberal arts in nature, such as Communications, Criminal Justice, Environmental Studies, Human Services Counseling, Journalism and Media Studies, Public Administration, and Social Work. The colleges offering these areas of study may often be referred to as Urban Affairs, Health and Urban Affairs, Urban Affairs and Planning, Urban and Public Affairs, and Urban Studies. Our interest group will focus on supporting dynamic partnerships of interdisciplinary learning, services, and scholarship that is founded on active collaboration among students, faculty, professionals, and community members.
