The number of members in this new interest group will continue to
grow as people are exposed to the Appreciative experience. Appreciative
Advising is beginning to appear in the literature. We are very interested
in moving Appreciative Advising to commission status (when eligible
to do so after two years of maintaining official interest group
status). We will continue to conduct pre-conference workshops and
presentations through out the country.
We are also planning on continuing to publish and conduct research
that will make Appreciative Advising more familiar to the advising
community. Within two years, we would like to present a NACADA webinar
on Appreciative Advising. Some of our members have also expressed
interest in working on a NACADA monograph relating to Appreciative
Advising. We expect to be one of the largest and most active commissions
within NACADA.
Appreciative
Advising celebrates diversity. The movement recognizes that everyone
has unique strengths and assets. Appreciative Advising is about
discovering and harnessing these unique individual qualities. We
do not believe that people should change in order to fit into a
system or culture. We do not operate from a deficit-based approach.
We believe that human potential is limitless.
