Advising and Academic Coaching Interest Group
Goals and Objectives
The
function of the Advising and Academic Coaching Interest Group will
be to address these areas more in-depth in a variety of ways. The
main focus will be to address these issues by:
- Developing a definition that combines
advising and coaching;
- Providing resources (workshops,
sessions at conferences, on-line materials) for members to enhance
coaching abilities;
- Developing a listserve for members
to issues, current trends, etc. on advising and coaching; and
- Creating partnerships with organizations
that focus on different aspects of coaching.
In the future, the Advising and Academic
Coaching Interest Group will seek partnerships with other Commissions
and Interest Groups (for example, the Advisor Training & Development
Commission) to provide support and services that are beneficial to
members of both groups.
Two-year
goals: Over the next two years, the chair and
the steering committee plans to:

offer at least one regional drive-in workshop each year focused
on advising and coaching,

solicit at least five proposals for each NACADA Annual Conference
that focuses on different aspects of coaching,

develop an on-line resource page that provides materials to members
to support the coaching of students,

develop a listserve for members to discuss various issues pertaining
to coaching, and
-
create partnerships with various coaching organization to provide
support and resources to help develop advisors as coaches.
Diversity
Charge: This Interest Group will encourage members
of different groups to provide information regarding the challenges
of coaching students of different groups. This information may be
in the form of workshops and presentations at conferences, discussions
on the listserv, or any other avenue available to members for support.
