Opportunity — Region
Chair
- elected
by members of the region
- serves a
2-year term
- must have
been a member of the region for at least one year prior to taking
office and be a current member in that region (Associate Members
are not eligible)
NACADA
has 10 Region Chairs. Region Chairs, together with their
Steering Committees, and within the missions of NACADA, determine
the needs of NACADA members and how best the regional governance
can fill those needs. The Region Chairs report to the Regional Division
Representatives.
Major
Leadership Responsibilities:
- Steering
committee leadership—Each region has a steering committee,
chaired by the Region Chair. Generally each steering committee
member is an elected or appointed representative of each of the
states/provinces in your region and are also given specific tasks
or areas of responsibility (i.e. membership recruitment, outreach,
etc.). The Chair is responsible for convening and conducting the
meetings of this group.
- Coordinating
the various activities of the steering committee.
- Advising
the Regional Conference Committee. Specifically, the Regional
Chair should approve the budgets and registration fees, the membership
of the various committees and subcommittees, and take part in
the conference as outlined in the handbook.
- Coordination
of communication with the Executive Office staff.

Meetings
to attend:
- Regional
Conference in the Spring
- State
Drive-ins as determined by your steering committee
- Steering
committee or conference committee meetings or teleconferences
- Leadership
meetings at the NACADA Annual Conference, including Division meeting,
Regional Conference Chairs Training, Region Meeting (which you
conduct), and others as requested by the Division Representatives.
Budgets
to prepare and monitor:
- Region
Budget (for general expenses required to meet the NACADA missions/strategies
and tasks of your region)
- Regional
Conference Budget: Work in conjunction with the Region Conference
Chair and/or committee to finalize the budget and registration
fees for this spring meeting.
- Approve
State Drive-in budgets.
Written
reports/communications:
- Academic
Advising Today e-publication - may suggest members from your
region as contributors for articles, etc.
- Communications
with members: Announcements are sent by e-mail as needed. A web
page, maintained at the Executive office, is updated by Region
Chair.
- Annual
Leadership report to advise the Council of the selection and completion
of activities/tasks your steering committee has chosen to implement
in relation to the NACADA missions and strategies.
Resources
and Support:
- Your
institution gives approval & support to your commitment to
this position, including your registration fees and travel, lodging
and per diem expenses for the Regional Conference and the fall
Annual Conference.
- The
NACADA Board of Directors appropriates limited funds towards participation
in the annual fall leadership meetings.
- The
Regional Budget, with the approval of the steering committee,
may appropriate limited funds towards participation in the state
drive-in meetings.
- The
Executive Office provides staff assistance for web updates, regional
communications, financial management, membership information and
statistics, and regional conference support, etc.
