Leadership Directory
NACADA Commissions provide Association
members an opportunity to network with others having similar
advising interests. The Commissions advise the NACADA Council
and the Commission & Interest Group Division leadership
on specific concerns and work to contribute to the knowledge
base in their area.
Consider
joining one of the following Commissions. NACADA members
may formally affiliate with up to four Commissions and/or Interest
Groups.
Interest
Group Leadership Directory (Formal & Pending)
Interest Groups are
created when there is a need, proposed by the membership to
focus on specific issues or to represent a particular interest
of the members of the organization. They have no formal governance
role but serve to meet the networking needs of the members.
Interest Groups have the option to apply for Commission status
when they are ready to contribute to the organization by providing
additional programs to the members.
NACADA members may formally
affiliate with up to four Commissions and/or Interest Groups.

Role
COMMISSION AND INTEREST GROUP DIVISION - represents
members with special advising areas of interest. These groups
provide a professional identity with others experiencing similar
issues and situations. Commissions are led by elected Chairs and
charged with proposing and facilitating activities and publications
to advance the professional development of members - focusing
on the specific area of the Commission.
Operational
Guidelines
I.
DUTIES: The Commission and Interest Group Division represents
members with special advising areas of interest. These groups
provide a professional identity with others experiencing similar
issues and situations. Commissions are charged with proposing
and facilitating activities and publications to advance the professional
development of members – focusing on the specific area of
the Commission. The Commissions shall set and maintain the criteria
for designation and continuation as a NACADA Commission.
Commissions: Identify
needed membership services focusing on the Commission, contribute
to the development of approved resources for the members, offer
professional development activities, contribute articles to the
NACADA Newsletter, deliver Commission Newsletters regularly via
the web, develop other professional development resources for
persons in each Commission, focus the membership recruitment and
retention efforts within the Commission, contribute to NACADA
publications, and Chairs meet immediately prior to the National
Conference each year.
Interest Groups: Serve
as networking groups for special interests and topics, meet during
the annual national conference, and maintain other means of communications
as desired by the group.
The Elected Division
Representative provides leadership for the Division, convenes
meetings, appoints person to take minutes, advises Chairs on activities,
presents Division items to the Council, oversees the financial
affairs of the Division by preparing Division Budget Request including
recommendations on Chairs’ request, and appoints and orients
Chairs of new sub-units. The Appointed Division Representative
provides continuity of support as Elected Reps transition and
handles sub-unit organization and recognition processes. Both
Division Representatives will share other responsibilities, including
the gathering of post-conference and annual reports from sub-units,
distribution of these reports to the Executive Office and Division
Reps, preparation of timely written Division reports to the Council
and Board of Directors, and the review and updating of the Division
Handbook, policies and procedures.
II.
MEMBERS: Members of the governing body of the Commission
and Interest Group Division are the Division Representatives,
Commission Chairs, and the Commission Steering Committees. A Division
Steering Committee may also be included. Interest Group Chairs
are included in the Division for communication purposes only with
no governing responsibilities.
III.
OFFICERS: There are two Division Representatives, one elected
to head the Division and one appointed by the President with Board
approval to assist with the operations of the Division and to
provide continuity as the two serve staggered terms. Both Representatives
serve on the NACADA Council. The Elected Rep is elected by the
incoming and continuing Commission Chairs. The Appointed Rep is
appointed by the President with approval of the Board. Commission
Chairs are elected by the Commission Members and establish a Commission
governing structure.
IV.
ELIGIBILITY: Division Representative candidates must have
completed a full term as a Commission Chair any time in the past.
Service as a Commission Chair makes one eligible to be a Division
Representative and/or a Board of Directors member.
V.
TERM: Division Representatives serve two-year staggered
terms. Commission Chairs serve two-year staggered terms.
VI.
REPORTING: The Commission Chairs provide a post-conference
report and an annual report (November and July) to the Division
Representatives. These reports are condensed and included in the
Division Representatives’ report to the Board each February
and August.
VII.
MEETINGS: The Division Reps and Commission Chairs will
meet immediately preceding the Annual National Conference each
year and electronically as needed.
