ACADV
- THE NETWORK FOR ACADEMIC ADVISING IN HIGHER EDUCATION
ACADV is a private electronic network
for academic advisors in higher education. The network provides
a forum for discussions and announcements for professional advisors
(those employed in the field of academic advising) and for faculty
members who have academic advising responsibilities, rather than
support personnel.
Individuals in the field of academic
advising may seek membership in the network by addressing an email
message to:
LISTSERV@LISTSERV.NODAK.EDU
(for those with internet access)
The first and only line of the mail message
must be as follows:
SUBSCRIBE ACADV (first name, middle name/ initial, last
name) - Note: the parentheses are not
needed.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Make sure that you use Electronic mail rather than interactive
messages to initiate your membership request.
You will then receive a message from
me requesting that you provide a brief statement concerning your
involvement/ employment in academic advising. This information
will determine your eligibility for membership in the ACADV Network
(remember, this is a private network). Further information will
be sent to you once you have mailed the SUBSCRIBE ACADV command
to the list serve address listed above.
All new members (once accepted) will
be asked to send a brief introduction as your first posting on
the network. The introduction will automatically be distributed
to each member of ACADV, usually within several minutes.
Messages may be posted to the membership
by any member of ACADV through electronic mail to ACADV@listserv.NODAK.EDU.
Please remember that any mail you wish to respond privately to
a member, make a note of the member's electronic mail address
while you are reading the message and then send your mail to that
specific individual. You will soon develop a feeling for whether
your response should be public (to all network members) or private
(to an individual).
Weekly logs (archived files) are maintained
at the list serve address. A listing of these logs may be retrieved
by any member of the ACADV Network by sending the command INDEX
ACADV to LISTSERV@LISTSERV.NODAK.EDU
(Internet) or LISTSERV@LISTSERV.BITNET
(Bitnet).
