NACADA Highlights - April 2014



 Region Conferences in 2014 - Register Now!

Regions have already broken many records with 3685 participants to date for the 10 conferences and the Research Symposium.  Region 3, 6 and 10 are still to come, so there is still time to attend in West Virginia, Iowa and Wyoming!    See the schedule and plan to attend!  Regions are already planning for the 2015 season, with conferences from Hawaii to New Hampshire and many in between!

Congratulations to the newly elected members of the NACADA Leadership! The term of office for these new leaders will begin at the conclusion of the Annual Conference in Minneapolis this fall. Division Representatives and Committee Chair elections will be held later this spring.


Each year NACADA recognizes deserving individuals and advising units with awards on their respective campuses for outstanding academic advising, faculty advising, or advising administration.  2014 Award winners will be announced in May.   NACADA also helps recognize individuals who receive campus advising awards for outstanding academic advising (faculty or full-time) or advising administration on their own campuses.

Have you read the March 2014 edition of NACADA's quarterly ePublication, Academic Advising Today, yet?  If not, you'll want to be sure to catch up with the Voices of the Global Community as they consider advising students transitioning from military life, integrity in advising, developing a professional identity, the resiliency of adult learners, advising undeclared students, and much more!

2014 NACADA Annual Conference - October 8-11 in Minneapolis, MN
Adventures in Advising: Explore, Discover, Collaborate, Transform

Be sure to make the most of your year-end professional development budget by registering now for the 2014 Annual Conference. An abbreviated Preliminary Conference Registration Form is available on the annual conference website.  Also be sure to book your room now from one of the official hotels; the hotel reservation information is available online.

Over 800 presentation proposals were received during the 2014 NACADA Call for Proposals!  A special thanks to Amy Sannes, the Annual Conference Program Chair, the Program Committee, NACADA Commission Chairs, and the hundreds of readers who made the proposal selection process run smoothly. Persons who submitted a proposal will receive notice of its status by mid-April.


2015 International Conference

2015 NACADA International Conference will be June 24-26, 2015 in Melbourne, Australia.  The theme for this event is Partnering for Student Success.  This event will provide a platform for the exchange of best practices and ideas from across the world! Participants will have an opportunity to network and gain a global perspective from colleagues that will strengthen our passion for student support and development. Be sure to check the conference website additional details become available this spring.



NACADA Book Review

The NACADA blog is another great platform for NACADA members to discuss topics of interest and concern. Members will be able to share NACADA experiences, research in the field, and make new connections through participation in the blog.
