About the Position 
The Davidson College of Engineering at San Jose State University is one of the five oldest public engineering programs in the state; and SJSU, founded in 1857, is the oldest public higher education institution in California. It is the largest contributor to the Silicon Valley workforce—SJSU graduates represent the largest alumni group in companies such as Apple (3 percent) and Cisco (6 percent). The Davidson College of Engineering is one of the largest public engineering programs in California, enrolling more than 6,000 students—including 2,000 graduate students. The Director of the Engineering Student Success Center (ESSC) is responsible for managing the staff and overseeing the functions of the center.  The ESSC provides academic advising and student support programs for undergraduate engineering majors, including the MESA Engineering Program.  The Director of the ESSC reports to the Associate Dean of the College of Engineering, and collaborates with the Associate Dean on the strategic direction and activities of the center. 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
-  Provide leadership and organization for the center on activities promoting undergraduate student support and success
-  Work with the Assistant Director of Student Support Programs to implement activities for MESA Engineering Program, Women in Engineering, and other programs. 
-  Represent College of Engineering on university advising committees.
-  Coordinate Designated Faculty Advisor program. 
-  Implement activities and manage day-to-day operations of the ESSC.
-  Collaborate with the Associate Dean on strategic direction and activities of the ESSC.
-  Provide academic advising through appointments, workshops, or other means.
-  Academic advising may include providing information about university policies, general education, probation, and referrals. 
-  Provide support for freshman and transfer student orientations to the university.
-  Periodically meet with ESSC staff, ESSC faculty advisors, and ESSC peer mentors to provide direction and coordination.
-  Provide input on performance evaluations for staff.
