Position Description

This individual will report directly to the Director of University Advising and will be working within the Exploratory Advising Center. They will be responsible for providing professional level academic advising/counseling and student support to freshmen in the Exploratory Major.


  • Providing advisement/counseling for students in matters related to goals, choice of curriculum, course load, study habits, and course scheduling/selecting; assisting in registration coordination procedures and schedule adjustments including verification of transient student requests; assisting with student orientation; teaching UNIV courses in the fall and spring; developing and or completing college/school documents such as classroom assignments, plans of study, curriculum guides, and study abroad documentation; serving as a resource for the university's student database including coordinating input, generating reports, training users, and recommending updates; verifying and reporting student and course information which may include (but not limited to) class rolls, grades, academic certification of athletes/veterans, statistical analyses, and/or forced drops; evaluating and/or updating student records in order to post grades, monitor student progress, and advise students on an appropriate course of study; and assisting with recruitment of prospective students. Other duties may be assigned as appropriate.

Required Qualifications

  • Entry into the applicant pool requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Education, Counseling, Communications, Business, Psychology, Student Development, or a relevant field.
  • Must have knowledge acquired through the course of undergraduate academic endeavors.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills are required, as is the ability to work as part of a team division wide.

Preferred Qualification

  • Demonstrated experience in a higher education setting; experience in advising; experience in working directly with students; strong presentation skills;
  • familiarity with technological and assessment tools;
  • excellent interpersonal communication skills;
  • the ability to work effectively in a team environment;
  • knowledge of Banner software;
  • knowledge of Student Success Collaborative software and knowledge of AU academic policies and procedures.
