Position Description

The Advisor II role is for an experienced Academic Advisor who shall provide academic advising to Honors students, focusing on those carrying a major in the Franklin College of Arts & Sciences, and assist Honors students with questions regarding the program's academic requirements and graduation distinctions.  


  • Advising: provide primary academic advising to first and second year Honors students majoring in the Arts & Sciences, including undecided students, regarding all requirements of their programs of study; discuss minors, certificates and other academic opportunities including experiential learning and combined Bachelor's/Master's degree programs; discuss Honors academic standing policy, probation, dismissal, etc.; provide referrals to pre-professional offices and other UGA resources; maintain student records in SAGE advising system and DegreeWorks Planner; maintain weekly walk-in hours to assist both lower and upper division Honors students.
  • First Year Orientation: provide comprehensive academic advising for incoming first year Honors students throughout summer orientation; assist Lead Advisor with organization and implementation of Orientation events, including Admitted Honors Student Welcome presentations.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of the Honors Program
  • Graduation Processing: discuss with Honors students and determine eligibility for Honors Program graduation distinction, including final processing of Exit Reviews.
  • Professional Development: regularly attend Franklin College advising meetings and report updates to the Honors advising team, in addition to Honors Program staff meetings, Honors Academic Advisors' meetings, advisor workshops, and other professional development events
  • Scholarships: review applications for students applying for the University's premiere scholarship, the Foundation Fellowship.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of a Bachelor's degree in field appropriate to area of assignment and three years of administrative and appropriate program experience; OR five years of progressively responsible work in this area; OR any combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved  
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and in a professional, team-oriented environment; ability to work with confidential documents containing sensitive information; working knowledge of Athena.  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous advising experience preferred. Knowledge of the 
    University's policies and procedures. Working knowledge of Athena and SAGE.
