Under primary supervision of the EUO Director of Undergraduate Affairs and secondary supervision from the Executive Director of Academic Advising in the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (focused on liaison, coordination, and collaboration to determine and implement best practices for first-year students), serve as one of the leads. Provide comprehensive and wide-ranging academic advising and support for first year (freshman and transfer) students. Serve as expert resource for and provide leadership to departmental academic advisers on a wide variety of policy implementation guidelines; provide advice and guidance to the chairs and members of college faculty governance committees, other undergraduate deans' offices, Undergraduate Education, and Student Affairs, including Admissions, SASC and the Student Community Centers (CCC, LGBTRC, etc.).
Provide comprehensive and wide-ranging academic advising and support for first year (freshman and transfer) students. Serve as expert resource for and provide leadership to departmental academic advisers on a wide variety of policy implementation guidelines; provide advice and guidance to the chairs and members of college faculty governance committees, other undergraduate deans' offices, Undergraduate Education, and Student Affairs, including Admissions, SASC and the Student Community Centers (CCC, LGBTQA, etc.). Collaborate closely with appropriate personnel in New Student Academic Services in Student Housing to provide essential pre-arrival advising services. Collaborate on the design and implementation of Freshman and Transfer Orientation, workshops and presentations on such topics as college adjustment, classroom and academic expectations, developing peer connections, etc. Ensure ongoing, individual and holistic advising for all first year students to develop a strong foundation for retention and academic success through graduation. Play a key role in development, coordination and implementation of student services and programming under the guidance of the Executive Director of Academic Advising in the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and in coordination with First Year Academic Advisors in other colleges. Interpret and apply complex Academic Senate, College and Campus academic and administrative regulations and policies associated broadly with undergraduate education and advising and in particular as they apply to first year students. Make decisions in consultation with appropriate college faculty on course planning and scheduling, academic intervention, dismissal, readmission, schedule adjustments and other matters of similar import for individual first year students; collaborate with the Associate Dean and Director in office planning and the development of office policies and procedures designed to optimize the delivery of advising and academic support services, such as first-year mandatory quarterly advising; represent the college at public forums and respond on behalf of the college to inquiries or complaints from the general public.
