Position Description

The Greenspun College of Urban Affairs (GCUA) invites applications for an Academic Advisor position. 
This is a full-time position and the primary role is to work with students in the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs from recruitment to graduation. All advisors utilize a variety of forums to educate students admitted to the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs about degree requirements, areas of study, and graduation requirements. Advising meetings will be conducted in person, by email, and through group settings. Advisors assist students with goal clarification and career planning based on each student's unique goals and circumstances. The advisor ultimately helps develop an educational plan with the student each semester to support their educational goals.

Additional duties include, but are not limited to; review and articulate transfer coursework, advise and evaluate student's degree progress, interpret and correct degree audits, help at-risk students develop remedial plans of study and refer to appropriate campus services, help process forms, and maintain detailed advising records utilizing a variety of software programs. Active participation in university recruiting, orientation, and service events will require occasional evening and weekend work. 
This is a full-time 12 month, non-tenure track position that reports to the Director of Advising.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, and have at least 1 year of relevant work experience, including work involving extensive student contact at a college or university interpreting, communicating, and applying academic policies. Knowledge of student development and learning theory would be desirable. Experience working with the PeopleSoft student information system would be highly desirable.

Advisors are required to speak publicly and communicate both verbally and in writing with outside constituents, so candidates must be personable and articulate, with excellent writing and speaking skills. Candidates must be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment of constant change and variety and possess effective decision making and problem solving skills.
