Position Description

The Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University is seeking applicants for an academic advisor (12-month, 100% time, fixed-term).

The successful candidate will work with a team of advisors in the College’s office of Undergraduate Academic Services (UAS) to provide academic advising services to prospective students, undergraduate business-preference, and business students (domestic and international) including academic program planning, education abroad, career development, undergraduate research, graduate study, and related topics. Responsibilities will also include participation in the development and implementation of activities/projects related to recruitment and student success; attending meetings at the department, college, and university level; participating in all the university’s Academic Orientation Programs (AOP); degree certification; and may include facilitation of the advising/orientation content in a one credit freshman seminar (BUS 101) during the fall semester. (90%)

Other responsibilities will include joint coordination of efforts to support business-preference students including but not limited to group advising initiatives, Marathon of Majors, and Neighborhood business advising strategies; joint coordinator for academic services and administration supporting the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Minor; coordination of the College Scholarship process (10%).

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with project administrative/coordination. 
  • Experience supporting undergraduate students in an advising or comparable capacity. 
  • Must be able to interpret and implement academic policies and procedures; demonstrated competency in the use of current technology (E-mail, Internet, and Office 2010). 
  • Excellent communication (spoken and written), organizational, interpersonal and decision-making skills required.
  • Cross-cultural understanding/sensitivity and commitment to diversity.
