Position Description

The successful candidate will work with the Director of Undergraduate Studies and a team of advisors and staff members in the Departments Undergraduate Office. The primary role will be shared advising for undergraduate students in one of the largest majors on campus (over 1400 students) in addition to prospective students. Responsibilities will also include internship placement and teaching, event planning and programming, career development, meeting participation at department, college and university levels, and participating in the University's Academic Orientation Program (AOP) for new freshmen and transfer students each summer.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • A master's degree in student affairs, counseling, psychology.
  • Candidates should have excellent interpersonal and communication (spoken and written) skills, as well as strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience supporting undergraduate students in an advising or comparable capacity.
  • Must be comfortable working in a team environment.
  • Minimum qualifications include a masters degree and considerable knowledge of computer-based programs such as Microsoft Word, Publisher, Power Point and Excel. Cross-cultural understanding and commitment to diversity. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • A masters degree specifically in student affairs, counseling, psychology or related field is preferred.
  • Familiarity with MSUs software and advising systems (SIS, ESAF, D2L, Student Success Dashboard, and Degree Navigator).
  • Experience working with college students and knowledge of MSUs academic requirements, policies and procedures are also desired.
