Position Description

The College of Continuing and Professional Studies currently offers six Master’s degrees across a range of disciplines, primarily serving working adults. This position is responsible for advising students in the Master of Professional Studies in Arts and Cultural Leadership (ACL) and a newly developed post-baccalaureate certificate in Human Sexuality (HSex). This position will also advise students in several other certificates and Master’s degrees that are under development. The adviser facilitates recruitment, retention, and timely graduation, and is expected to have broad familiarity with university programs in order to advise students on curricular planning and academic progress.
This is a 100% time Professional and Administrative position that reports to the Director of Graduate Programs.

Duties

Advise Students (60%)

  • Advise 20-30 ACL Master’s students in the development of their degree plan, including coursework, board practicum, and final project to ensure timely graduation
  • Advise 20-30 HSex certificate students, assisting them with course selection and certificate completion
  • Advise students in newly developing graduate programs as they become available
  • Work with the CCAPS Graduate Programs Operations team to update student records including degree plan and annual degree audits; communicate status to students including relevant University policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with respective Directors of Graduate Studies on student and curricular concerns
  • Represent programs in a variety of settings inside and outside the University

Student Recruitment and Retention (40%)

  • Participate as an active member of the enrollment management team, host information sessions and other recruiting efforts, and collect and maintain prospective student data
  • Serve on admission review committees and participate in decisions about program curricular updates
  • Represent programs in a variety of settings inside and outside the University
  • Build external relationships with employers, advocacy groups, professional organizations, undergraduate institutions and identify targeted audiences for recruitment
  • Enhance relationships with other University departments, advisers, and working groups
  • Participate and represent programs at CCAPS events including Homecoming, Commencement, Fall Graduation Reception, information sessions, education fairs etc.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • At least one year advising or closely related experience in higher education
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusivity

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three or more years of professional experience in higher education
  • Experience working with adult, online and /or part-time students in a higher education setting
  • Exposure to a broad range of academic fields
  • Familiarity with relevant university technology used in recruitment, advising, student services, and data management
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, PeopleSoft, Canvas, and SalesForce
