Position Description

Performs academic advising, educational, professional, or other basic academic advising or training at the individual or group level as appropriate. Work is performed under supervision with performance based on individual advising effectiveness and overall program results obtained.

Duties

  • Advises students in the BGS Program. Helps students choose their various areas of study. Advises students as to which courses to take to fulfill requirements.

  • Prepares preliminary assessments for students interested in BGS Program to give them a sense of what their degree requirements will be.

  • Advises students who are A&S Undeclared or Pre-Law. Helps students with major selection and advises them on which classes to take to fulfill general education requirements for the university.

  • Writes official degree plans for BGS students. Confers with departmental advisors concerning requirements for the three minors necessary for the degree.

  • Attends all RR Orientations in the fall, spring and summer terms.
    Maintains accurate and complete records for students who are BGS, ASUD or Pre-Law.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; one year related experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as an academic advisor in a community college or university setting.
  • Complex problem solving skills.
