Position Description

The Academic Advisor will provide proactive advising to a caseload of undergraduate students pursuing health sciences majors at IU Fort Wayne. Through individual and group meetings, the Advisor will encourage intellectual and personal growth of students, promote student engagement, integrate career planning, facilitate student academic planning (including proactive parallel planning) and progress toward degree completion, provide resource referral, and communicate policies. The Advisor will serve on a IUFW One Stop student services team which will provide programming to support academic and career success, facilitate new student orientation and registration, staff recruiting events for prospective students and their families, and serve on committees as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree plus 1 year of experience in advising, teaching or counseling in higher education.

  • Counseling skills, understanding of college student development and success with particular attention to first generation students and students from diverse backgrounds, ability to understand and interpret complex information, program development skills, comfort with technology, orientation toward teamwork and collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Development, or Counseling.
