Position Description

This position serves as a member of the advising staff for the Department of Psychology; provides academic counseling to undergraduate psychology majors and minors; meets with prospective students from within and outside the university; assists students in identifying academic and career goals and in selecting courses consistent with their developing goals; provides information about jobs, internships, and graduate school; helps students understand university procedures/policies; monitors academic progress and reaches out to at-risk students; prepares and submits curricular and enrollment petitions; teaches psychology survey course including preparing survey lessons, developing and grading assignments, and attending survey planning meetings; participates in recruitment and orientation activities; evaluates transfer credit and is liaison with Transfer Credit Office; assists with planning and implementing events and programs; possesses knowledge of university offices related to the student experience from admission to graduation, and makes referrals as appropriate; participates on department or college committees as assigned; assists with commencement activities, including graduation rehearsal and line-up; serves as department scheduling back-up; advises psychology student organizations; evening and weekend hours are sometimes required.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Psychology or related field; at least one year of academic advising with students in a college setting; experience working with students from diverse backgrounds; strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of university procedures, resources, curriculum, and Student Information System.
