The Santa Fe College Davis Center brings quality education to the residents of Archer and southwestern Alachua County. The Davis Center offers day and evening coursework, SMART classrooms, a computer lab, office space, as well as common meeting space.The Davis Center Advising Specialist provides information, guidance, personalized advisement, admissions assistance, and recruitment support to Davis Center students. The Advising Specialist prepares students to achieve their professional and educational goals by helping students explore academic options, develop academic plans for success, register for coursework and make timely progress to persist toward degree completion.
•Assist in all advisement efforts, including recruitment, academic advisement, as well as technological innovations to enhance, expand and improve advisement such as distance advising.
•Assist incoming students with admissions, course selection and sequencing, assessment, placement, academic and career path guidance, and initial course selection.
•Analyze and interpret student data, transcripts and placement results as per state and college regulations, policies and procedures.
•Work with Davis Center students, responding to at-risk reporting with appropriate student outreach and follow-up.
•Strictly honor the privacy and security of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal and college regulations, policies and procedures.
•Participate in advisement initiatives including presenting to small and large groups of students during workshops, class presentations, college fairs, and other special events.
•Serve as a liaison between the Davis Center’s academic advisement and academic departments at SF and University of Florida; and the Disabilities Resource center.
•Build partnerships and collaborate with areas across campus to provide referrals to appropriate campus resources (i.e. tutoring, counseling, career services, Financial Aid, SF’s Food Pantry) and community resources, helping to achieve advisement objectives.
•Engage the student population through various activities with Student Life at the Davis Center.
•Serve on college-wide committees on behalf of the Davis Center’s Academic Advisement.
•Assist with the implementation and execution of Quality Enhancement Plan initiatives, which includes the introduction of an early alert system for academically at-risk students, as well as progressive advisement.
•Assist with customer service and faculty support including locking and unlocking buildings and classrooms when needed.
•Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
•Perform other duties as assigned.

Human Resources at Santa Fe College
Education: The successful candidate will possess at least a Master’s degree, Ph.D. preferred, with proven ability to lead and manage a technology-driven, student-oriented academic advising and support operation.
Special skills and knowledge: A clear vision for academic advising in a competitive academic environment, a high level of comfort with information technology and its application to advising, knowledge of current national trends in academic advising, experience with assessment and its use in shaping policies and procedures, demonstrated ability to create and manage programs to serve students in a diverse and multicultural environment, and knowledge of management techniques that improve client services are all important factors in the selection of the assistant dean.
Related work experience: Familiarity and experience with the academic environment as a faculty member, administrator or advisor is critical. The person in this position also will demonstrate a vision of effective service, possess strong leadership, management and supervisory skills, and have experience in providing academic services to students and faculty. Demonstrated experience and commitment to the development of a continuous learning and service culture is required. Also essential is supervisory and managerial experience with a diverse workforce where goals are frequently achieved through use of influence rather than direct supervision. Experience with the creation and launching of service delivery programs in a highly decentralized environment is important.
