Position Description

The Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University invites applications for an Advising Specialist - Program Coordinator AP based in the College’s Undergraduate Studies Office. The ECAS Undergraduate Studies Office focuses on day-to-day experiences of students and faculty, including direct advising, working with departmental advisors, ensuring undergraduate majors are on track toward meeting requirements for graduation, working with students who are not in good academic standing, etc.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide academic and career orientation advising. Duties will include establishing plans of study for students who are not meeting their major’s benchmarks; advising students who want to explore a new major within the college; assisting students who are on probation, on deferred suspension or have been reinstated; developing and teaching courses, workshops, and/or modules that enhance cross-disciplinary Arts and Sciences undergraduate education goals; participating in recruitment events, and working with the Director of Undergraduate Studies to achieve Undergraduate Studies Office priorities.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree and one (1) year of experience in teaching and advising at the college level. 
  • Additional qualifications include; working effectively with at-risk students on developmental skills; demonstrated ability to work with data; evidence of excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills; evidence of attention to detail; evidence of ability to assess and enhance the effectiveness of advising and development activities.ntion and success
