Position Description

The Assistant Director of Assessment will support the University College in developing a comprehensive assessment plan that will help to measure, support and improve on university-wide retention goals.


This position will support a culture of continuous improvement by analyzing and evaluating all program areas of the University College in addition to serving as an academic advisor. The working title for this position is Assistant Director of Assessment.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree and equivalent combination of training and experience necessary to perform the work is required.
  • Program development, implementation and evaluation experience
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational and excellent communication skills to include writing and public speaking are also required.
  • Must demonstrate strong data management and analytical skills including advanced knowledge of excel and SPSS (or comparable programs) and/or the ability to learn these skills quickly.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect, compile, analyze and evaluate information and make verbal or written presentations based on this information.
  • Must have experience or demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with the university community and work as an effective team member in a diverse work environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the highest ethical standards in leadership and administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective teams to meet necessary outcomes.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills applied to motivation, delegation, planning and assessment as well as training, mentoring and effectively communicating with staff, faculty and students at all levels.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to develop and implement a comprehensive assessment plan for the University College that include, but are not limited to, analysis and interpretation of student retention and graduation data, while working in partnership and collaboration across divisions and units on campus.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply current best practices in student development theory when developing/modifying policies and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply student development theories and current technological tools to contemporary advising practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement professional development experiences, aligned with the codified philosophy and curriculum of academic advising.
  • Demonstrated skill in exceptional organizational and time management.
  • Demonstrated experience in effective project and/or program management.
  • Demonstrated ability to act upon the most difficult individual and organizational problems and opportunities.
  • Demonstrated skill in effective interpersonal communication.
  • Demonstrated skill in exceptional communication with on campus constituencies (e.g., staff, faculty, students, managers, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively both in writing and verbally; demonstrated effective public speaking skills.
