Position Description

Reporting to the provost and working cooperatively with the academic deans and faculty, the coordinator will create a comprehensive plan for systematic advising protocols and practices, continuing education in advising for professional advisors as well as faculty who advise in academic majors. Coordinator will oversee the professional advisors in conjunction with Academic Deans. This position will collect and analyze appropriate data to inform advising and improve student persistence and completion. Partnering with Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and Enrollment Services, the coordinator will facilitate seamless integration of the student experience from the point of admission through registration, enrollment, and completion. The coordinator will ensure that advisors receive cross-training on academic programs, financial aid, learning support, student services and other core institutional services.

Duties

  • Coordinate all aspects of advising by representing those initiatives authorized by the Office of Academic Affairs and the Office of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. Work in conjunction with the deans or designee of each school who supervise individual advisors
  • Ensure ongoing assessment of advising and work collaboratively with the Office of Institutional Research to meet SACSCOC requirements
  • Provide the Office of Academic Affairs with reports and progress regarding alerts, follow up and issues generated from those initiatives
  • Assume role as Academic Alert Case Manager
  • Work closely with OCIS and Student Support Services to orchestrate and oversee the alert system performance and any changes needed in Banner
  • ‚ÄčTrain faculty in conjunction with the Registrar on use of the Academic Alert system and DegreeWorks
  • Facilitate and modify GaView course for Academic Alert
  • Work in conjunction with advisors regarding responsibilities using the alert system\
  • Organize professional development opportunities for advisors
  • Train advisors in the use of intrusive/appreciative advising
  • Work collaboratively with Academic Affairs to ensure timely requests for outreach to students regarding advising (e.g., banners, emails etc.)\
  • Organize and coordinate advising components of student orientation in collaboration with Admissions
  • Represent advising at open houses, admission events, orientation, and other functions as necessary
  • Utilizing NACADA resources to ensure advising standards are met and staying up to date on best practices
  • Attendance at local, regional, and national trainings/conferences
  • Monitor the email account advising@daltonstate.edu on a regular basis
  • Work closely with Career and Professional Development to develop an annual majors fair
  • Represent Dalton State at RACAD, the USG regional advising group

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Counseling, or other related field
  • Three years academic advising experience
  • Two years of supervision experience
