The Dean of Student Success focuses on building and maintaining strategic alignment of all phases of the university's student retention and completion plan through developed collaborative relationships with faculty, students, staff, and administrators. The Dean of Student Success directly oversees the integration, enhancement, and strengthening of academic support services including the Department of University Studies, the Office of Retention, and the Office of Engagement.
The Dean of Student Success reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and provides the vision, leadership, management, accountability, and direction for college-wide efforts to increase retention, persistence, and student goal attainment at Elizabeth City State University.

Possess excellent leadership including the ability to set and achieve goals. Possess strong interpersonal skills which would allow effective communication with administrators, faculty, staff, and students; ability to write reports; strong computer skills; and effective organizational and customer services skills. Possess the ability to work collaboratively with individuals from a variety of units. Possess the ability to manage and motivate employees to advance strategic initiatives. Possess knowledge and understanding of student success and student retention literature and best practices, particularly theories focused on first-generation students. A Master's degree, Ph.D./Ed.D preferred, with at least three years of experience in a leadership position in students success, retention, and/or advising with supervisory level responsibilities. Experience working with higher education/university populations and implementing and assessing student success initiatives and data-driven outcome development and decision making. Experience teaching in a university setting highly desirable.
