Position Description

The College of Visual Arts and Deisgn at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Director, Academic Advising to join our team. 


Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervising and developing functions of the CVAD Advising Office, including recruitment and retention programs, orientation and registration processes, and continued student advising.
  • Working as liaison between university offices (admissions, registrar, etc) and CVAD departments in communicating undergraduate issues and policies.
  • Working with CVAD departments, Academic Assoc. Dean, and university offices to enforce CVAD and university policies and to expedite solutions for student issues and complaints.
  • Responsible for the mechanics of articulation and DARS activities.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in related field and six years of closely related professional experience and the following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required:
  • Extensive knowledge of issues and activities related to assigned program areas.
  • Knowledge and skills to professionally and effectively counsel and mentor students.
  • Strong ability to establish successful working relationships and to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability in organizational planning, budgeting, and supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of University and external rules and policies related to the assigned program areas and Student Development in general.
  • Knowledge of safety and security precautions related to work performed and work supervised.
