Position Description

This position is responsible for providing leadership and direction to the University Advisement Center as an entity and to the University at large on general advisement issues. The incumbent is responsible to ensure that academic and career advisement is available to students at all levels and circumstances to aid them in reaching their educational and personal goals in a timely, professional and supportive manner. This position manages and directs the staff and ensures that all students who come to the Center receive the services they need, including information that is accurate and helpful, appointments with advisors as needed and referrals to other resources as appropriate. They are directly responsible for supervising the advisement of more than 3,000 undeclared and visiting students on campus, as well as developing specialized programs and course instruction for enrolled Enriched Environment students.  The position is also responsible for the supervision of staff instruction of nearly 50 Student Development course sections annually involving 1,500 students. 


1.Providing leadership to a key University function   

2.Managing the flow of services in a critical student advisement delivery system 

3.Providing individual and group advisement services 

4.University and department committee attendance and assignments 

5.Teaching, presenting, creating and evaluating student development materials

6.Training advisors, staff and others in student development theory, advising, and University policies & procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in counseling, advising or related field. 
  • At least 5 years full-time professional experience in advisement at the college level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in counseling or related field.

  • 10-15 years of relevant advisement experience.
