Position Description

The International Studies Major is an interdisciplinary program with areas of specialization in Global Security, International Political Economy & Policy Studies, and Culture in an Age of Globalization. Students select one of these three tracks for specialization.

Required Qualifications

  • One year or more of advising or analogous experience preferred. International experience (e.g., study or employment abroad) required.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and writing ability required.
  • Working knowledge of a foreign language strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to advise undergraduate students in the field of international studies empathetically and professionally.
  • Must be knowledgeable about international studies as a field and as an undergraduate major at UW- Madison.
  • Ability to work in concert with the Director and Steering Committee of the International Studies Major, as well as with staff of the Institute for Regional and International Studies (the administrative home of the Major) to analyze needs of students, regularly assess the effectiveness of the program, and develop strong curriculum and advising programs.
  • Working knowledge of SIS, DARS, DARS-X, Advisor Notes, Lumen Interactive Reporting, Guide editing, Qualtrics, and AEFIS (or similar) strongly preferred.
