Position Description
California Southern University is seeking a team-oriented candidate for the position of Academic Advisor in the School of Behavioral Sciences in our Irvine, CA administrative offices. The Academic Advisor is integral member of the School of Behavioral Sciences team providing a high quality education in a student-centric environment and will be assigned a caseload of students at the graduate levels. The Academic Advisor assists a diverse population of students in their academic planning utilizing professional advising and guidance skills. They review and interpret academic policy and procedure with students to enable them to make informed decisions concerning their educational goals leading them to graduation.

Advise students regarding academic issues; review degree plans; provide information about institutional policies, procedures, resources; timely response to e-mails, phone calls and voice messages; course approval; participation in commencement ceremony; and assist the school Associate Dean in the implementation and assessment of advising initiatives.

Required Qualifications 
Master’s degree; two years’ related experience as an academic advisor or in a student services position at a post-secondary institution; proficiency with Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint; effective oral and written communication skills; proficiency in student information database.
