Position Description

The Senior Academic Advisor position exists in order to provide academic advising, major/career planning, and mentorship to UNLV students in the Honors College as well as information to prospective students and community members about the college and its mission. This position will support all academic advising initiatives and play a significant role in the implementation, execution, and data-based reporting of the college's RPC (retention, completion, and progression) programs especially as they relate to cooperating with other advising centers and departments across campus.

Required Qualifications

  • This position requires a Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) from a regionally accredited college or university and three years of related professional experience with one year of comparable professional experience as well as a proven ability to serve students in academic, social, and professional development capacities.

  • Excellent speaking/writing skills and a background higher education is needed to perform at a high-level in an interdisciplinary academic advising center.

  • A solid working knowledge of software programs such as Student Success Collaborative (Campus Connect), MyUNLV (PeopleSoft), MyAnalytics, Gmail, Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher; Blackboard, Canvas, Qualtrics (survey tools), Doodle Poll, shared calendars, and presentation & design software such as Prezi and other software is desired.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Desired qualifications include: a Master's degree from an accredited institution which may include a broad range of academic majors within Agriculture, Education, Humanities, Liberal Arts, or Business; experience in academic advising; demonstrated ability to work with students; knowledge of higher education issues; some experience in working with faculty and staff in higher education; and a strong record of working with a team of colleagues.
