Position Description

Plans, designs, implements, and evaluates a variety of professional duties within the College of Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences (CBSHS) and the College of Education (CoE), including advising, counseling, recruiting, and retaining students.  Performs other duties as assigned.


35% - Essential - Advising:
Plans, implements and evaluates advising and counseling activities for Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education students through a variety of areas, including admissions procedures, registration and course selection, academic progress, policy interpretation, career overviews, change of major, exam requirements, transfer credit, course substitution & personal development.

30% - Essential - Counseling:
Provides supportive counseling. Refers students to campus services. Follows Federal guidelines while handling parent inquires. Directs registration activities for advisees. Plans,  implements and evaluates new student orientation for all CoE students. Evaluates and determines use of transfer credits. Assists faculty with applicants for change of major students entering education programs. Advises and assists students changing to non-competitive education majors. Evaluates enrolled education students for admission to the professional level of education.

15% - Essential - Recruiting & Outreach:
Recruits prospective students to CoE by providing them with accurate information and facts about CoE's academic programs. Leads the planning, implementation and evaluation of CoE recruiting activities at the University and College level events.  Serves as the front door for prospective students and their families who are interested in enrolling in education programs at Clemson. Plans, coordinates and evaluates special events for CoE at the College, University and community levels including Family Weekend, Fall and Spring Blitz, Discover Clemson, and Experience Clemson.  Ensures the CoE has adequate representation at all recruiting and special events.

10% - Essential - Student Support Services:
Plans, implements and evaluates activities designed to retain students within CBSHS and CoE majors including utilizing the Student Success Collaborative software to run campaigns to retain and support student success. Assists with production of Academic Advising Center publications.  Connects education majors to international and study abroad opportunities. Assists prospective certificate-only students in education to evaluate options for certification as well as complete information evaluation work towards certification only. Enters Praxis scores into Clemson University database.

10% - Essential - Liaising & Communication:
Serves as the first point-of-contact for accepted students. Contributes CoE accomplishments and news to the Colleges. Plans, implements, and evaluates activities designed to retain students within CoE majors. Supports the Colleges' role in Clemson University's Bridge to Clemson program. Serves as a member of the CoE Academic Advising Committee and helps support CoE student advisory board initiatives.
