Position Description

The Transfer Center takes a lead in ensuring that UNC Charlotte provides the best possible experience for transfer students across the University. It provides a range of advising, programming, and outreach services to that end as well as working with other campus stakeholders serving the transfer population. In addition, the Transfer Center provides similar leadership and services to students who are transitioning between majors. The Transfer Center will provide primary advising services to transfer students in University College and secondary advising to transfer students in all other colleges across the campus. All advising will be based on a developmental model that assists transfer students in academic exploration, learning registration and degree audit skills, and negotiating academic policies and resources.


The essential job functions of the Transfer Advisor are to assist transfer student advisees in identifying academic strengths, and establishing appropriate plans of study based upon specific program requirements, student’s interests and abilities, and academic and career goals; to assist advisees in making the connection with appropriate college advisors, faculty, and other on-campus academic support services for transfers. The Transfer Advisor will teach or co-teach a transition seminar for transfer students each semester, and actively support the chapter of the honor society for transfer students. The Transfer Advisor will assist in routine outreach and liaison activities with local community college advisors and students. Candidate must have the following qualifications: attentiveness to detail; strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple requests and handle them in an efficient and timely manner; excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem solving skills; ability to interact effectively with students and faculty of all cultural backgrounds and experience levels; ability to thoroughly understand and abide by federal and university guidelines regarding student confidentiality requirements; proficient use of computers and knowledge of various software programs.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree required in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or related field.
  • At least 3 years experience, preferably involving extensive direct student advising/counseling in a higher education setting, and/or collaboration with staff/faculty to develop and promote services for transfer students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in utilizing online student records system (BANNER) to review records for academic progress a plus.
