Position Description
 

The National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) at Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS, is seeking a Financial Accountant for a newly created term position. NACADA, the leader in the global education community for academic advising, is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. We are comprised of 16 full-time staff and growing. This position will report to the Assistant Director and provide financial, accounting, and operational support within our executive office.

 

Appointment Conditions

Twelve-month term appointment contingent upon continuing availability of funding and need for these services.

 

Duties

 

Under the general guidance of the Assistant Director, the incumbent will be responsible for activities related to tax exemptions; 1099 preparation; completion of credit card and credit applications; development of financial policies, practices and procedures; streamlining of accounting activities to include electronic deposits and domestic and international payments; and researching various accounting issues, IRS publications and codes. The incumbent will assist as needed with monitoring, auditing and analyzing accounts payable expenditures; preparing, recording and documenting financial transactions; performing analysis and reconciliations of bank and credit card statements; preparing profit and loss statements and ad hoc reports; accounts receivable activities; the annual audit; and year-end reporting.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications
BS/BA in accounting, finance or closely related field.
1 year of related experience.
Sophisticated level of experience using Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
Experience performing analysis and problem solving.
Experience managing or coordinating multiple priorities simultaneously.
Must be eligible for employment in the U.S. at time of employment.


 Preferred Qualifications

Graduate coursework in accounting, finance or business.
3 years of related experience.
CPA designation or other evidence of extensive knowledge and understanding of accounting principles and practices.
Experience and proficiency with financial accounting software, i.e. QuickBooks, Great Plains Accounting or other.
Experience managing sensitive or confidential information.
Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, or billing; adjusting entries, accruals or other general accounting activities.
Experience learning and adapting to new systems quickly.
Experience in a non-profit, banking or public accounting environment.
Experience with electronic transactions involving deposits, ACH and wire transactions.
Experience with international currency.
Experience completing government reports, i.e. sales & use tax, 1099’s and 990’s.
