eLearning Support SpecialistHumboldt State University(Job 16-80) eLearning Support Specialist, Student Services Professional II, $3,746 - $5,325/mo. Appointments are typically made at the beginning of the salary range. This is a full time, benefited, 12-month position in the College of eLearning Extended Education (CEEE).Position Summary:Under the lead oversight of the Director of Extended Education and OLLI, the eLearning Support Specialist will work collaboratively with faculty, staff and students in supporting online learning initiatives. The eLearning Support Specialist will work with program coordinators to provide guidance to prospective and current students. This will include assisting with review of academic records, helping students understand the components of degree or certificate requirements, helping students plan their class schedules and identifying resources that will contribute to the students' success and timely degree completion.The incumbent will assist with developing online orientation, training and resource materials for students and faculty. This will include high-quality training programs, orientations, demonstrations and self-guided tutorials and preparing other types of user documentation in supporting optimal online learning experiences. In addition, the eLearning Support Specialist will help students by monitoring their progress, contacting them regularly to offer assistance and encouraging them to stay current with their work.The eLearning Support Specialist will develop and review various analytics, communicate with students and keep instructors and program coordinators apprised of individual circumstances. Student engagement in courses will be tracked by checking logins and assignment submissions. Should a student appear to be falling behind, the Support Specialist will reach out to the student to determine if there is an issue which can be resolved to re-engage the student.


Duties:Facilitating Online Student Recruitment and Advising:• Respond to inquiries from prospective students and develop and implement follow up efforts;• Maintain familiarity with CSU/HSU admissions and degree policies and procedures, degree audits, resources, and program details;• Provide information to potential students on program requirements, pre-requisites and transferability of prior work; create pro-forma summaries for individual students to generate preliminary degree plans;• Monitor student applications to degree and certificate programs and follow up with students to complete the application process;• Conduct meetings (individual as well as group) to advise students concerning scheduling, participation, academic progress and curriculum issues;• Help students to identify appropriate courses to take and build class schedules;• Coordinate with registration staff to enroll students;• Act as bridge between students, instructors, program coordinators and program leaders.Supporting orientation, training and documentation:• Develop and facilitate online orientations for students;• Assist with developing and conducting workshops, trainings, demonstrations and self-guided online tutorials;• Prepare course support materials that help ensure student success in online learning experiences;• Develop FAQ and other easily accessed and simple to understand web resource for online faculty and students;• Assist with development and maintenance of CEEE faculty hand book regarding faculty/student issues;• Assist CEEE faculty by answering questions, researching answers and troubleshooting unique technical issues as they occur.Provide resources and support to students enrolled in online courses:• Serve as point of contact for online students to provide resources and support;• Work with the Help Desk and LMS team to support students and faculty as needed;• Maintain proactive communication with students and faculty to resolve potential problems;• Monitor student progress, checking that students have logged in and submitted assignments;• Contact students if they appear to be falling behind;• Work with students and faculty to resolve individual issues;• Keep faculty and coordinators apprised of developments;Coordinating with other units:• Develop, implement and facilitate programs and services for online students, working with CEEE program coordinators, degree program leaders and others such as Admissions, Office of the Registrar, HSU Orientation, Academic Advising Center, Learning Center, Testing Center, Student Disability Resource Center, Librarians and College advisors, etc.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:Experience: Equivalent to two years of progressively responsible professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field. A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.Education: Graduation from a four-year college or university, preferably in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field.

Preferred Qualifications

A working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of degree and certificate programs; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management; general knowledge of research and interview techniques, and of the principles of individual and group behavior.Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretive information through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; recognize multicultural, multisex and multi-age value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; and, rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the College of eLearning and Extended Education. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas.Ability to manage and participate in multiple projects, and to work collaboratively with faculty and staff as a part of an interdisciplinary team; strong verbal and written communication skills; comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated expertise in the use of a wide variety of web and multimedia development software and learning technologies; ability to understand and explain admissions and degree requirements. The incumbent must have a strong commitment to customer service, be proactive, and self-motivated in order to support the diverse needs of faculty and students related to eLearning initiatives within the college.
