While there
is an increasing involvement of faculty advising in academic
departments, there is evidence that the effectiveness of four
critical variables of the advising process is unsatisfactory.
The areas of training, accountability, evaluation, and recognition
and reward are the most significant methods through which
advising can be improved but they are the least focused components
of most campus advising programs. This monograph describes
the engagement of faculty to bring about vitality in these
four areas of academic advising and provides a better way
to document, improve and evaluate faculty advising.
