Academic Success and the Student-Athlete Non-Credit Online Course

Summer 2009

June 1 - July 27

Registration Form (fillable pdf)

Course Description

This non-credit course has been developed for use by academic advisors, athletic counselors and other campus staff (both inside and outside athletics) responsible for student-athlete academic support and for eligibility certification.

The goal of the course is to provide an avenue for staff members who work campus-wide to receive training on the NCAA Division I and Division II rules and regulations, as well as to gain information on basic principles for advising students, with an emphasis on advising student-athletes and improving academic success.

Course Format

By offering this information in an online format, participants are provided a learning opportunity that can be accessed either in their own home or office, and at a time of day that works best for their schedules. They will not be required to be online at any particular time and can work at their own pace. The class content will move forward each week allowing the participant the entire week to work through the weeks content. The participants can complete the content all in one day or do a little each day as their schedule allows.

The course is eight weeks in length and will take place June 1 through July 27, 2009.

This course is structured in a manner that allows the participants to develop a national network through interaction with other members of their cohort through virtual chat rooms and discussion boards.
