About
the Seminar
This
one-day seminar will provide the framework to assist academic
advisors in creating academic plans that focus on student
success and persistence to graduation while addressing the
various academic, social and collegiate-athletic issues facing
student-athletes. The faculty will lead participants through
discussions that focus on the culture of intercollegiate sports,
the NCAA Academic Performance Program (standards and measures),
the principles involved in academic advising for student success,
and the new NCAA
“FLAG” Program (Facilitating Learning and Achieving Graduation).
Who
Should Attend
Academic
advisors (professional and faculty) and athletic counselors
from both 2- and 4-year institutions will benefit from this
seminar. Two-year college personnel will understand how to
help prepare the student-athlete for transfer to a 4-year
institution and position them for academic success and persistence
toward a baccalaureate degree. Academic personnel, as well
as athletic administrators, faculty athletics representatives
and CHAMPS/Life Skills coordinators from 4-year institutions
will understand first-year, transfer, and continuing student
success and persistence. All advisors will consider the at-risk
factors presented in the FLAG models and will understand how
to collaborate with various campus units and resources to
mitigate the at-risk factors.
