TOUR #1—THURSDAY, OCTOBER 2ND
DALLAS DAZZLES
9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., $31.00

Welcome to Dallas, the world-renowned city featuring a unique blend of modern sophistication, southwestern warmth, and cosmopolitan flair. Visitors to Dallas are struck by its diversity: an ultra modern, visually striking downtown skyline alongside historic and fascinating landmarks that evoke grand visions of Texas past and present.

Relax and enjoy a driving tour as you learn about Dallas’ remarkable history including how Dallas was named and why it was founded on the banks of the Trinity River. Discover famous sites like Pioneer Plaza, the larger than life bronze sculpture that commemorates the Shawnee Trail (a cattle trail that passed through Dallas), and Fountain Place where dozens of computer controlled fountains create an incredible visual spectacle. This tour also includes highlights such as Dallas City Hall, The Arts District, the original Neiman Marcus department store, the Old Red Courthouse and The Farmers Market.

At this point, guests will be taken to Dallas’ Historic West End District for time to shop and enjoy the many options for lunch. Guests will have a ball in this unique area of downtown Dallas that presents a matchless mix of shopping, dining, and museums offering something for everyone in a few square blocks inside turn-of-the-century converted warehouses. Originally built in the early 1900's, these warehouses still display the original brick walls and support structures. The West End’s charm and character make it a favorite destination for everyone!

Next, it is a fun romp through the neighborhood of Highland Park, the fourth wealthiest residential area in the United States, to truly discover how modern day oil tycoons live. Built by turn of the century oil barons and cattlemen, these are the homes of the rich and famous and are a marvel to see. See such landmarks as Highland Park Shopping Center, The Dallas Country Club and Southern Methodist University, just to name a few!

After exploring the Park Cities, the group will continue their tour with a visit to the Swiss Avenue area of Dallas. The Swiss Avenue Historic District is one of the finest early twentieth century neighborhoods in the Southwest. Just two miles from downtown Dallas, the district has over two hundred homes with excellent examples of more than a dozen historical styles. Swiss Avenue's broad sidewalks and lush evergreen median form the centerpiece to this neighborhood's handsome, architect-designed homes. Adjacent Bryan Parkway offers a more intimate neighborhood scale and has one the Texas' best collections of Craftsman style homes. The district also encompasses portions of Live Oak Street, Bryan Street and La Vista Drive. After a narrated driving tour of this area, guests will enjoy a docent-guided tour of a Queen Anne style mansion, located in the heart of the Historic Wilson Block. For an insider’s view of Dallas, behind-the-scenes, this tour is not to be missed.
