TOUR #3—THURSDAY, OCTOBER 2ND
SOUTHFORK AND BEYOND – THE “DALLAS” STORY
10 :00 a.m-4:00 p.m., $56.00
It’s
a fun day of trivia, gossip and Texas tales about the television
show that put the city of Dallas on the map!
The group’s journey begins with a narrated driving tour
of the Downtown area of the city, with special attention paid
to the many buildings and landmarks prominently featured in the
series Dallas. Ever wondered what filming
location was used for the season cliffhanger, “Who shot
J.R.?” Find out this and more!
First, the group will head north for a visit to
Southfork Ranch, the home to the fictitious Ewing
family. On the way to the ranch, our tour guide will share stories
and trivia of the famous Southfork Ranch where JR, Sue Ellen and
the rest of the Ewing family led their “soap opera”
existence.
Upon arrival, guests will explore the Visitor’s
Center before touring the recently renovated “Ewing”
Mansion – “the most famous White House west of DC”.
There will be time to browse through a display of the television
series memorabilia at the “Dallas Legends - Fact to Fantasy”
display. This display highlights the interesting news, stories
and “Dallas” trivia as well as photos of the stars
and shots of actual filming on the ranch. In addition, there will
be time to shop for that perfect Texas souvenir amid a unique
collection of western apparel and gift items, and stroll through
the property. After the tour and shopping, a delicious barbecue
lunch will be served at the ranch.
Next, it is a fun romp through the neighborhood
of Highland Park, the fourth wealthiest residential
area in the United States to truly discover how modern day oil
tycoons live. Built by turn of the century oil barons and cattlemen,
these are the homes of the rich and famous and are a marvel to
see. See such landmarks as Highland Park Shopping Center, The
Dallas Country Club, Southern Methodist University, and quaint
Snider Plaza, just to name a few. For an inside look at Hollywood’s
vision of Big D, this tour is not to be missed!
After exploring the Park Cities, the group will
continue their tour with a visit to the Swiss Avenue area of Dallas.
The Swiss Avenue Historic District is one of the finest early
twentieth century neighborhoods in the Southwest. Just two miles
from downtown Dallas, the district has over two hundred homes
with excellent examples of more than a dozen historical styles.
Swiss Avenue's broad sidewalks and lush evergreen median form
the centerpiece to this neighborhood's handsome, architect-designed
homes. Adjacent Bryan Parkway offers a more intimate neighborhood
scale and has one the Texas' best collections of Craftsman style
homes. The district also encompasses portions of Live Oak Street,
Bryan Street and La Vista Drive. After a narrated driving tour
of this area, guests will enjoy a guided tour of a Queen Anne
style mansion, located in the heart of the Historic Wilson Block.
For an insider’s view of Dallas, behind-the-scenes, this
tour is not to be missed.
