Duties

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

Pre-Freshman Summer Program

• Plan the program’s content; recruit program participants; hire and train teaching and non-teaching program staff; coordinate the      curriculum; and oversee program operation.

Tutoring Services

• Supervise and support tutors who work with students individually and in groups. Create tutoring schedules to best fit students’       schedules. Involve teaching faculty in the development of tutoring services.

• Design and maintain progress tracking reports for the Director in order to assess the effectiveness of these services and make        recommendations and adjustments when appropriate.

Undergraduate Research Students

• Monitor the academic progress of the Division’s undergraduate research students and assist and advise students in the         development of their skills in presenting research projects at conferences, seminars and other special events.

Advising and Registration

• Provide academic advising support for beginning level traditional and non-traditional students who are majoring in one of the           subjects in the Division of Science with a focus on student retention.

Additional Duties

• Maintain databases for the purpose of reporting to funding agencies and appropriate College offices. Represent the Center and/or Director at statewide meetings related to funding sources, serve on college-wide committees, and report to the Director about these meetings and committee activities.

• Other related duties may be assigned and are subject to change based on program needs.

Required Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably with a major in science. Must have a minimum of four (4) years related experience in a higher education academic support program working with a diverse student body. The candidate must have excellent communication and computer skills. The candidate must demonstrate leadership and problem solving skills as well as the ability to multi-task.

Baccalaureate degree in Higher Education, College Personnel, or other related areas. Orientation
• Design and implement orientation programs for first year students that meet the following goals:
• Register students for their first semester courses early after admission.
• Partner with Admissions, Welcome Center, School of Arts & Sciences, and other areas to ensure a constant message to incoming first year students that promotes yield.
• Develop and implement programs to foster a sense of community among new students.
• Promote new students' understanding of Hunter, its academic expectations, and paths to success.

First Year Advising
• Supervise the first year advising team to ensure all new first years are assigned to a professional advisor for their first two semesters of the college.
• Utilize advising as a teaching method, to ensure students learn the skills, competencies and information to clarify goals, develop meaningful academic plans.
• Develop and implement an early warning system to identify and contact at-risk first year students.
• Prepare new students for the transition after the second semester to general advising programs and faculty advising.

First Year Block Program
• Collaborate with School of Arts and Sciences to create a coordinated program that supports first year student success.
• Coordinate with School of Arts and Sciences to develop, schedule and implement Advising Services collaboration in the First Year Seminar.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and six years of related experience required. Doctoral or master's degree in student personnel administration, higher education, or related area strongly preferred. Previous experience in academic advising, assessment, managing staff, programmatic initiatives, public-speaking, budgets, and using research to develop innovations strongly preferred. Ability to work collaboratively with the faculty and administrators is critical.

The Preprofessional Advising staff works with students interested in applying to medical, dental, and other health related professional schools, and possibly those interested in applying to law school. Duties
Counseling students:
