Position Description

The position will maintain personal contact with students for academic and personal support, conduct periodic assessment of their academic performance, and provide appropriate information and/or make referrals as needed. Required Qualifications

Position Description

Duties

The Coordinator of Student Retention and Community Outreach at NEIU-El Centro reports to the Director of NEIU-El Centro and is responsible for student recruitment and retention, admissions, and academic advising; organizing student academic and co-curricular activities; initiating and maintaining contacts with the Latino community; organizing and implementing community programs; serves a liaison between NEIU-El Centro and community; and represents NEIU-El Centro in departmental, University, and community activities.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate must possess a Masters degree in Higher Education or related field and have experience in academic support programs and community programming preferably in a metropolitan higher education institution. Bilingual (Spanish/English) with in-depth understanding of the educational, economic, and cultural needs of Latino students is required. Candidates must also demonstrate excellent communication skills; have a valid Illinois Driver’s license and must be available to work evenings and weekend hours.

Case Western Reserve University, one of the nation’s foremost research universities with a deep commitment to undergraduate education, invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Studies. The Office of Undergraduate Studies oversees the academic aspects of student affairs at Case Western Reserve University for over 4000 students in baccalaureate degree programs offered by the College of Arts and Sciences, the Case School of Engineering, the Weatherhead School of Management, the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, and several departments in the School of Medicine, as well as for non-degree students who do not hold an undergraduate degree; participates in curricular discussions within and among the constituent faculties, initiating discussions aimed at enhancing the undergraduate academic experience; and collaborates with the division of Student Affairs in pursuit of an integrated academic and co-curricular experience for undergraduates at the University. Duties

The Assistant Dean will serve as the principal point of contact with the Office of Undergraduate Studies for a cohort of approximately 1000 upperclass students and their faculty advisors and instructors, monitoring and supporting the academic progress and personal welfare of these students, and working with them to enhance their academic experience at Case Western Reserve University. In this role, the Assistant Dean will advise and counsel students on a wide range of academic, personal, and administrative matters, collaborating with faculty, other academic resources, and support services, as appropriate. The Assistant Dean will share responsibility for general advising about careers in the health professions and will serve as the primary pre-health advisor to students in his or her cohort. The Assistant Dean will also be responsible for working with the Dean of Undergraduate Studies to support academic advising in the majors and minors, coordinating meetings and communication with Department Representatives and faculty about advising issues and other academic policies. The incumbent will be expected to participate in the broad range of activities and programs that support of the overall mission of the Office. This position reports directly to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate will have at least five years of experience advising and/or teaching undergraduates in a four-year liberal arts college or a comprehensive college/university environment. He or she will have excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to support and challenge a diverse population of high-ability undergraduates. The ability to apply independent judgment and decision-making to issues related to university policies and procedures is essential. We seek a person with proven success in a collaborative environment, the ability to assimilate and communicate information to a variety of audiences, and a good sense of humor. A master’s degree required.

Preferred Qualifications

A record of initiative and leadership in developing educational and advising programs for high-ability students is highly desirable, as is experience advising students considering careers in the health professions. A Ph. D. is preferred.
