Awards: The
NACADA
Service to Commission Award
was created to recognize an individual who has provided outstanding
service, leadership, and commitment to a specific commission. Each
NACADA Commission that has been in existence for a minimum of three
years may select one individual each year to receive a NACADA Service
to Commission Award. Each recipient
of this award will be presented with a recognition plaque during
the respective Commission's annual meeting held during the NACADA
annual conference in the fall.
Eligibility:
Each
nominee must have been a member of the commission for at least
one full year prior to the date of the nomination submission.
For each commission, previous winners of that commission's award
are not eligible. However, previous winners from one commission
are eligible for another commission's award. Current commission
officers (chair and chair-elect) and members of the commission's
selection committee are not eligible for this award.
NOTE:
For the 2008 Service to Commission
Awards, the following commissions will participate
in the solicitation of nominations for this award —
Advising Administration
Commission, Advising Business Majors Commission, Advising Students
with Disabilities Commission, Advising Transfer Students Commission,
Advisor Training & Development Commission, Engineering &
Science Advising Commission, Faculty Advising Commission, LGBTA
Concerns Commission, Multicultural Concerns Commission, Technology
in Advising Commission, Theory
& Philosophy of Advising Commission, and Two-Year
Colleges Commission.
Criteria:
The criteria for the selection of a Service to Commission Award
winner may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Active participation in commission and/or
steering committee activities
- Length of commission membership
- Length of NACADA membership
- Presentations at annual/regional/state
conferences on commission-related topics
- Commission-related contributions to the NACADA Journal,
Academic Advising Today, and other publications
- Contributions to the local campus in
support of commission goals and objectives
- General willingness to work on
commission needs and tasks such as
- Recruiting NACADA members to participate
in commission-related projects
- Recruiting conference speakers to
give presentations on commission-related topics
- Evaluating commission-related conference
proposals
- Other
appropriate examples of contributions and commitment to the
specific goals and objectives of the respective commission
Nomination
Process:
Nominations
must contain adequate factual or descriptive material for the selection
committee to evaluate the nomination, including:
- A
completed nomination form (Word
format) (pdf

- A
supporting letter from the nominator providing evidence
that the candidate has made significant contributions to the goals
and objectives of the respective commission
- Letters
of support from colleagues within the commission (not
to exceed three letters)
Nominations,
including all support documents, will be submitted electronically
in Word format via e-mail attachment to jqwolf@ksu.edu
or nacada@ksu.edu at the
NACADA Executive Office to arrive no later than April 1,
2008.
Questions concerning the Service to Commission Award for a particular
commission should be directed to that commission's current Chair.

Responsibilities
Involving the Service to Commission Award
Responsibilities
of the Commission & Interest Group Division:
- To
oversee the Service to Commission Awards including coordinating
guidelines, criteria, and nomination/selection processes;
- To
promote the Service to Commission Awards generally; and
- To
review the guidelines, criteria, and nomination/selection processes
regularly (three years) and to recommend appropriate changes and
improvements.
Responsibilities
of individual commissions:
- To
review general criteria established for the Service to Commission
Awards and to determine, if appropriate, additional criteria specific
to the commission (optional). (If additional criteria are determined,
the NACADA Executive Office must be notified with sufficient time
to include in award promotion.);
- To
request funds for the award when appropriate;
- To
actively solicit nominations for this award;
- To
create an award selection committee comprised of commission members
- chair of the commission may or may not be a member of this committee;
and
- To
follow processes and procedures for selecting a candidate and
granting the award as set by the CIGD. This would include notifying
the NACADA Executive Office of the Award recipient and working
with the NACADA Executive Office to notify appropriate parties
including the nominator, the award recipient, and commission members.
Responsibilities
of the NACADA Executive Office:
- To
assist the CIGD and individual commissions in the processes and
procedures associated with the Service to Commission Award, including
dissemination of information about these awards and award recipients;
and
- To
prepare notification and congratulatory letters, as well as award
plaques for the Award recipients.
