Service to Commission Awards - Guidelines

Awards: The NACADA Service to Commission Award was created to recognize an individual who has provided outstanding service, leadership, and commitment to a specific commission. Each NACADA Commission that has been in existence for a minimum of three years may select one individual each year to receive a NACADA Service to Commission Award.  Each recipient of this award will be presented with a recognition plaque during the respective Commission's annual meeting held during the NACADA annual conference in the fall.

Eligibility:

Each nominee must have been a member of the commission for at least one full year prior to the date of the nomination submission. For each commission, previous winners of that commission's award are not eligible. However, previous winners from one commission are eligible for another commission's award. Current commission officers (chair and chair-elect) and members of the commission's selection committee are not eligible for this award.

NOTE: For the 2008 Service to Commission Awards, the following commissions will participate in the solicitation of nominations for this award — Advising Administration Commission, Advising Business Majors Commission, Advising Students with Disabilities Commission, Advising Transfer Students Commission, Advisor Training & Development Commission, Engineering & Science Advising Commission, Faculty Advising Commission, LGBTA Concerns Commission, Multicultural Concerns Commission, Technology in Advising Commission, Theory & Philosophy of Advising Commission, and Two-Year Colleges Commission.

Criteria:

The criteria for the selection of a Service to Commission Award winner may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Active participation in commission and/or steering committee activities
  2. Length of commission membership
  3. Length of NACADA membership
  4. Presentations at annual/regional/state conferences on commission-related topics
  5. Commission-related contributions to the NACADA Journal, Academic Advising Today, and other publications
  6. Contributions to the local campus in support of commission goals and objectives
  7. General willingness to work on commission needs and tasks such as
    • Recruiting NACADA members to participate in commission-related projects
    • Recruiting conference speakers to give presentations on commission-related topics
    • Evaluating commission-related conference proposals
  8. Other appropriate examples of contributions and commitment to the specific goals and objectives of the respective commission

Nomination Process:

Nominations must contain adequate factual or descriptive material for the selection committee to evaluate the nomination, including:

  1. A completed nomination form (Word format) (pdf format)
  2. A supporting letter from the nominator providing evidence that the candidate has made significant contributions to the goals and objectives of the respective commission
  3. Letters of support from colleagues within the commission (not to exceed three letters)

Nominations, including all support documents, will be submitted electronically in Word format via e-mail attachment to jqwolf@ksu.edu or nacada@ksu.edu at the NACADA Executive Office to arrive no later than April 1, 2008.

Questions concerning the Service to Commission Award for a particular commission should be directed to that commission's current Chair. A list of current Commission Chairs can be found on the CIGD web site at www.nacada.ksu.edu/Leadership/cidiv.htm#comdir.
